What a View

What a beautiful day for a hike, no rain,
a gorgeous blue sky with
giant volumous clouds,
2 darling dachshund dogs,
a picnic lunch, dog treats, ski poles
(aids for uphill), and a camera!

On the way up the trail
we past some kool bike
jumps
that some industrious youth had made.

Also on the way up Jordan
lost his jacket!
I can't believe it,
It was his favourite
cow jacket!

Finally after an hour of
up and more up ...... a valley view
worth seeing!

This is a view of the Fraser Valley
surrounding Abbotsford.
The mountains in the foreground are
Canadian
and the mountains beyond
are in Washington State.

We literally found a ledge
and had our picnic lunch.

Then the incident happened
during lunch, I'm almost too
embarassed to mention
my error which could have led to a
dachshund disaster...

We were enjoying our
lunchtime ledge which
hosted our lunch and a great view.
Since the ground was our table,
the dogs were intoxicated
by the smell and the view
of our food.
Their eyes were locked onto my
meatloaf sandwich.
After all they surely deserved to
share in this delightful dish,
since their little short legs worked
10 times harder than ours
in climbing the trail.
I broke a piece of meat
from my sandwich and gently
tossed it toward Raphael......yikes
....to my horror he missed it
and the meat tumbled down over the ledge!
(at least a 75ft. drop)
If I can remember correctly,
both Rene and I yelled emphatically
"STAY, RAPHAEL,
STAY"

I'm convinced that an angel
must have been holding Raphael
by the tail to keep him from
bounding after that chunk of meat.
Jordan
was still trying to figure out
what he had just missed out on.
"What a relief!!"

Considering that they are hound dogs,
it made sense that they would be on the
hunt.
Raphael found a
dead mole
and decided to bring it home with him.
A few good rolls on a
carcass captures
enough scent for take home delights.

As we retraced our steps back down the trail,
we heard the moo
of a lonely cow jacket!

Home sweet home,
a haven of rest!

New York, New York

We did it, New York in 11 hours!
But why only 11 hours? Originally we had planned for 4
days in
New York, but a snow storm cancelled our flight
so we spent more time at Dustin's school.

Dreaming of New York,
another flight delayed!
(ice in New York)

We finally arrived at 9:00pm,
and signed up for the shuttle bus tour.
(not really a tour, but we saw the city as passengers were
dropped off here and there)

It was exciting to see Times Square at night,
and I have the blurry picture to prove it!

"Veselka" a 24 hr Ukranian Restaurant,
for the next 5 hours. Interesting people, borsht (beet soup)
raspberry cheese blinze, perogies & kolbasa sausage & coffee
to keep awake!
Very ukranian yummy!

Yummy homemade baking
that we were to full to sample.

Check out the menu on the wall.

Can you see the famous New York yellow taxi?
We left our 24hr haven with suitcases in tow and arrived
at JFK airport at 3:11am for a 7:30am flight.
(found out that terminal 9 didn't open until 4am.
we could have had another cheese blinze and coffee)

A great view of Calgary from the airplane.
Since our flight to Calgary was delayed, we missed our
Abbotsford connection, but we caught a flight to Vancouver
an hour later.
It was great to get away for an adventure
but it is sure great to come back home!

6 Planes, No Trains, 4 Automobiles, 1 Shuttle Van and 1 Taxi

Photo: flying over Toronto in a 12 seat plane to NH.

Elisa Marie and I (Linda) flew to the New England state of New Hampshire to visit Dustin William at school. It was a whirlwind trip, leaving on Sunday night and arriving mid morning on Monday, then leaving 7 days later for home, but it was worth it!
Dustin skipped school and met us at the airport which was 45 min. away.
(Thanks Josiah for driving!)
We stayed at the girl's house which is affectionately called "The Yellow House".
Our first meal, gourmet hotdogs!

The Yellow House is huge, with endless bedrooms and lots of bathrooms, a huge kitchen area, 2 livingrooms, plus 2 full suites for staff, all situated on some acreage in New London
(a small retirement town full of huge/gigantic summer residences). Take notice of the wood beam ceilings, mostly wood flooring and lots of wallpapered walls.
Claire and Jessie gave up their comfy beds for us, and they bunked in with some other students in another room.
They insisted that it would be fun for them to be
with the other girls, kind of like camping!

Below is a picture of the typical size of a house in
New London, gigantic! Yes we had snow!!

On our first night there we went to an optional evening of art & music!
Dustin and Elisa checked out the art table while I manned the camera.
The next day we went to classes with Dustin.
This semester was coming to an end,
so the students were making class
presentations while we were visiting.
Great timing for us, because we saw
our fellow Canadians Brandon Bowers, Luke Matthews
and Jesse Matthews present their stuff, eh!

Then it was lunch break before everyone dispersed
for their internship work assignment.

A highlight of the week was 2 snowball fights!
Elisa jumped right into the fray while I safely
snapped pictures from the inside porch.

The next photo is my best action shot,
yes that's Dustin doing a flip off a chair.
Luke just let a snowball fly and Jesse
is getting ready to let one loose.
Those canucks love the snow!

Afterwards having to deal with wet pants,
socks & shoes, since the boys were at the girls house
with no change of clothes.
It was worth it, they had a great time!
Hey Dustin and David,
why not get that fireplace blazing hot!

In the kitchen, Anthony and I are busy practicing
some Hebrew alphabet....aleph, bet, dalet, gimmel, hey.....
Dustin took us up to Pinnacle Mt for a great view.
For New Hampshire the mt. was high,
but for BC it was moderate in height.
Nevertheless, it was beautiful up there,
a warm breeze was blowing and the atmosphere
was light and peaceful. I was sorry that I had forgotten
to wear my boots because it was very slushy snow.
Thanks so much Chad for giving us a ride in your truck,
we would have been soaked!
At the top there wasn't very much snow,
just enough for a snowball.
Elisa had just thrown a snowball at Dustin,
can you tell she hit her mark!

Time to say goodbye and head for New York!
