a gorgeous blue sky with
giant volumous clouds,
2 darling dachshund dogs,
a picnic lunch, dog treats, ski poles
(aids for uphill), and a camera!
On the way up the trail
we past some kool bike
jumps
that some industrious youth had made.
Also on the way up Jordan
lost his jacket!
I can't believe it,
It was his favourite
cow jacket!
Finally after an hour of
up and more up ...... a valley view
worth seeing!
This is a view of the Fraser Valley
surrounding Abbotsford.
The mountains in the foreground are
Canadian
and the mountains beyond
are in Washington State.
We literally found a ledge
and had our picnic lunch.
Then the incident happened
during lunch, I'm almost too
embarassed to mention
my error which could have led to a
dachshund disaster...
We were enjoying our
lunchtime ledge which
hosted our lunch and a great view.
Since the ground was our table,
the dogs were intoxicated
by the smell and the view
of our food.
Their eyes were locked onto my
meatloaf sandwich.
After all they surely deserved to
share in this delightful dish,
since their little short legs worked
10 times harder than ours
in climbing the trail.
I broke a piece of meat
from my sandwich and gently
tossed it toward Raphael......yikes
....to my horror he missed it
and the meat tumbled down over the ledge!
(at least a 75ft. drop)
If I can remember correctly,
both Rene and I yelled emphatically
"STAY, RAPHAEL,
STAY"
I'm convinced that an angel
must have been holding Raphael
by the tail to keep him from
bounding after that chunk of meat.
Jordan
was still trying to figure out
what he had just missed out on.
"What a relief!!"
Considering that they are hound dogs,
it made sense that they would be on the
hunt.
Raphael found a dead mole
and decided to bring it home with him.
A few good rolls on a carcass captures
enough scent for take home delights.
As we retraced our steps back down the trail,
we heard the moo
of a lonely cow jacket!
Home sweet home,
a haven of rest!
Some of Rene's nature shots from our hike.

Nice shots! Glad that Raphael is so obedient!
I love the pictures-- What a view of the Valley! I would love to head up there at some point this summer. We'll have to make a date...
Great blog post, it's nice to have such a well photo documented post! You'd better stop or you might make me miss the dogs!
